The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the first year of operation of the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society following the amalgamation of the Germany & Colonies Stamp Club (established 1947) and the Stockton German Study Group (1960).

The G&CPS celebrated its inaugural year in 1964 with the first Germania Posta philatelic exhibition held in Stockton.

VISITORS' MESSAGE BOARD

We are sorry but the image attachment feature of our website is not working properly. We are trying to fix the problem. In particular please note point 5 below.

  1. The Visitors' Message Board is open to all to use; members could use the Visitors' Message Board to respond to a visitor's enquiry for example, but your response and any sender's details given will be open to any other visitors to see.

  2. Users of either Message Board will automatically be notified by e-mail when a response is received to their message. Please note that the e-mail notification from ‘forum@germanphilately.org’ with the heading ‘GCPS – Reply to your Message’ may arrive in your ‘junk mail’ or ‘spam’ folder, to avoid this please add the address ‘forum@germanphilately.org’ to your safe list.

  3. A picture file attachment can be added to your message - for example if you have a query about a particular stamp or postmark.

  4. If you are uploading a picture, please bear in mind that the larger the file size, the more likely you are to encounter problems, especially on slow internet connections. While there are no specific file size limitations, the optimum specification for pictures is: 72dpi and a width of 540 pixels, saved as either .gif or .jpg format. File names should be kept as short as possible, and contain letters and numerals only following these suggestions will optimise your chances of a successful upload.

  5. 'Showcase Cover' - as a bit of philatelic fun why not use the message boards to show an interesting cover from your collection and say something about it - put 'Showcase Cover' in the message board heading - type in your text, add the image and share a sheet from your album with others.

  6. To avoid error messages and timing out - if your message is likely to take more than a few minutes to complete it is better to compose it offline in a text only programme like Notepad then cut and paste it into the newly opened message board message box for immediate submission.

  7. If you need to see the original query text/image at the same time as you are responding to it, you can open your reply in a new window/tab by right clicking (Windows) or control click (Mac) on the title of the post you are responding to, this will open a subsidiary menu. From the menu chose open link in new tab, or window.

  8. Historical posts and their replies on the message board can be searched by a single keyword (not multiple words) entered in the ‘search the forum’ box. Search results may take a few moments to be returned whilst the search is being performed.
